Advent Calendar Day 2

Day 2:

So we're going to still a bit easy mode, but not so easy for some of you. In October we had a cypher event. The most common one was a Caesar cypher.

It was very simple you just had to shift the alphabet a bit and convert the letters back.  However we're going to do something a bit different. For all the odd letters I have shifted to the Left by 4.  For all the even letters I have shifted to the right by 6.

Good luck to everyone.

The day is done the code is expired.

The solution was XBEDIFWPIHWEULXD

Here is how you were to solve it.

We have the code THAJELSVENSKQRTJ

we then had the instructions of shifting all the odd letters, and the even letters.

I have shifted to the Left by 4 which meant you had to shift them 4 to the right.
It if helps think of a number line. Left on a number line is subtraction, right on a number line is addition.

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

A + 4 =  E
E + 4 = I
Q + 4 = U
S + 4 = W
T + 4 = X

THAJELSVENSKQRTJ  so all those bolded letters get changed to the correct letters now.

You were told that I have shifted to the right by 6, you do the same thing, only this time you move it to the left.

H - 6 = B
J - 6 = D
K - 6 = E
L - 6 = F
N - 6 = H
R - 6 = L
V - 6 = P

THAJELSVENSKQRTJ so all the bolded letters get changed to the correct letters.

This would result in XBEDIFWPIHWEULXD

Had the letter went below A, or above Z, you would just loop around and continue counting.  Y + 4 = C  |  B - 6= V

Now you know how to do a Caesar Cypher
