There is a chill in the air as darkness creeps in earlier each day. It's almost time for Halloween, and we have a spooky event full of fun, thrills, and prizes! Keep reading to find out more about the event, our newest staff member, and some news about WoE.

Ghosts 'n' Stuff

Pumpkin Festival

In Alberta, you will find Hermann, the Ticket Master (/navi alberta 118/70). He distributes rewards in exchange for Pumpkin Festival Certificates. Visit him to see what he offers!
Earn Pumpkin Festival Certificates by participating in some of these mini-games! Check our Wiki Page for more detailed information.

  • Powerful Pumpkin Pies: Monsters will sometimes drop Edible Pumpkin or Raw Dough which can be used to make pumpkin pies that give you a temporary stat boost. Bring these items to Casper, the Traveling Cook (/navi alberta 114/71) to get some pies and earn one Pumpkin Festival Certificate each day.
  • Mischievous Ghosts: Every so often, Mysterious Pumpkins will appear in the towns of Payon, Aldebaran, and Yuno. Some of the pumpkins are actually ghosts in disguise! Catch them and claim the Certificates they stole!
  • Trick or Treat: Available in Alberta, Geffen, Izlude, Niflheim, and Rachel. Find a mask salesman in town, gather the required items, and put on a mask before you knock on a door. Each house will give you a Certificate and maybe something else too. Trick or treating is limited to 10 times each day per character. Be careful in Niflheim... they may have treats, but also plenty of tricks.
  • Old Cobby's Spirit: Find the great pumpkin trolling the field south of Prontera.

The Haunting of Skidbladnir
Spirits of the damned have overtaken the castle of Skidbladnir (Yuno 5). Purchase a Ghost Free Charm from the Ghost Hunter (/navi sch_gld 71/315) to gain 24-hr entry to investigate the cause of the haunting. He might have interesting things for you to trade if you bring him Pieces of Spirits. Inside, you'll find the Gatekeeper standing guard over something. If you vanquish enough spirits, you will take on their essence and the Gatekeeper will let you pass. In exchange for 75 Breaths of Spirits, he offers a ticket that grants access to your whole party for 1 hour. On the other side, Kafra offers rewards in exchange for Halloween Coins, but be warned... this realm is not for the faint of heart.

Welcome our new Player Relations specialist, Larissa! She has been with us behind the scenes for a few months as a tester, and now she's ready to make her big debut. If you see her in-game, be sure to say hello and ask her lots of questions, but please be gentle. Larissa will also be adding content to the wiki and helping on the forum!

War of Emperium News

When I announced at the end of June that the initial release of our new and improved WoE would be ready in October, we had not yet discussed all the changes we wanted to make. Once that was finally settled, we realized that what we had on the drawing board was going to be difficult to fit into the existing WoE framework. That meant a lot of skilled developer work had to be done. Just as that phase was starting to get rolling, Real Life interfered (as it always does) and the project had to be put on hold until the necessary staff was available to work on it again. That being said, I can already sense that some of you may have concerns...

Stop! It's already dead! You're changing WoE too much and it won't feel like WoE anymore.

That's what I thought at first too, but aren't there some things about WoE that could be better? Like more fighting instead of sitting around waiting for people to attack at the last minute. In the end, it will still look and feel very much like WoE, or at least that is what we are aiming for.

I just wanted the cheating to stop. How did a few fixes turn into this huge project?

We saw this as an opportunity to come up with something unique that could attract new players to our server. We will see how players respond when it is released, and we will likely be making several subsequent updates as "open beta" reveals what changes are needed. We have already planned to implement changes to address fairness and balance, including the restriction of certain consumable items. Still no decision on Gepard 3.0, but that's tied to another big update that we're holding off for now.

I don't want to leave you all hanging, but there are too many unknowns to set another tentative release date yet. The project should be able to get moving again in a week or two, so by the next maintenance, I will be able to make a better estimate based on progress. Stay tuned for that, plus more teasers!
